What is a Dutch Oven?
The Dutch Oven, the Original Dutch Oven by Petromax, is a cast-iron pot with a lid. It is intended for direct use over an open fire and embers but can also be used on the stove and in the oven. The Dutch Oven is a truly traditional piece of cookware that has not forfeited in popularity over time. This is due, among other factors, to its robust material, the characteristic taste of the food prepared inside and the natural and healthy cooking experience. Good care provided, a Dutch Oven will accompany you for a lifetime.

How does a Dutch Oven work?
You can use a Dutch Oven the same way you use a conventional pot and cook stews or roasts inside on your stove. Thanks to the material, the heat is stored perfectly, distributed evenly and you achieve the best possible cooking result every time. The Dutch Oven is designed for particularly high temperatures, so do not worry about using it in the oven, for example for baking bread or for subsequent cooking. The Dutch Oven can also be used directly over an open fire or in a charcoal bed.
When cooking your first dishes do try to avoid acidic foods. Use a little more liquid when cooking over an open fire. During cooking, a patina layer forms automatically, increasing with each use and naturally preventing food from sticking. In our Dutch Oven the intense flavours of your food are not lost, rather they are intensified during the cooking process. This imparts a particularly characteristic flavour tothe food prepared in the Dutch Oven.
Is the Dutch Oven for professionals or beginners?
It is never too late to learn when cooking with a Dutch Oven. When you purchase a Dutch Oven, you get a pot with character that can accompany you faithfully throughout your life. Handling and care differ somewhat from conventional pots, but are in no way demanding. Read the user manual carefully, then you will know what kind of care your pot needs. You may then start your first cooking adventureimmediately, for the Dutch Oven is already pre-seasoned. Over time, you will become more confident and try out new things. The results will impress you, just as they have many amateur and professional chefs before you.

What accessories do I need for my Dutch Oven?
