Whether it is a fried egg in the morning, or a steak roasted to perfection – pans are essential to every hobby and professional kitchen. Petromax Pans assist you in every situation and allow flexible use in your outdoor kitchen. We rely on robust and natural materials and non-stick properties that improve with every use. With the right care, your Petromax Pan will last a lifetime.
What are the best frying pans?
The best frying pans impress with perfectly roasted food and a wide range of uses. Pans that can be used on the stove, in the oven or over an open fire provide the greatest flexibility. However, the material must be suitable. Cast- or wrought-iron pans are, thus, best suited for this purpose. They also get the best out of your food.
Due to the self-forming patina, cast- and wrought-iron pans develop a natural non-stick layer that renders your frying pan even more robust. Professional chefs already discovered these durable frying pans for their use. For us, the best pan is the one without coating and thus cannot release any substances into your food but instead improves every year.
Find out whether a wrought-iron or cast-iron frying pan is best for you.

Which pan for which purpose?
The roasting properties of cast-iron and wrought-iron pans differ, so it is important to know what kind of roasting result you want to achieve with which pan.
For searing meat, fish and vegetables or the best roast potatoes in the world, wrought-iron pans are made for the job. They offer a particularly crispy roasting result and steaks also benefit from an unmistakable taste. Due to the material, wrought-iron pans can also reach high temperatures in a very short time.
If, however, you want to roast or reheat meat or prepare the perfect pancake or pizza dough, a cast-iron Fire Skillet is your best choice. For the perfect steak with grill stripes and roasting aroma, the Grill Fire Skillet with integrated grooves for draining off cooking liquids is ideal.
Petromax Cast-Iron Pans are available with one or two handles or with one pan handle and small handle on the other side. They also have spouts on two sides to drain off liquid. A special pan in the Petromax cast-iron range is the Poffertjes Pan which can be used on any stove or over an open fire. Cast-iron cookware is also characterised by its ability to improve the flavour of the food prepared in it, which is the reason why it is becoming increasingly popular in professional kitchens.
Two tips for you:
- If you like to cook outdoors but do not want to do without a roasting pan, a Petromax Cast-Iron Dutch Oven is what you need. The lid of the Dutch Oven can easily be used as a pan.
- For easy use over an open fire you can also use Petromax Griddle and Fire Bowls. That way you have your hands free and plenty of room for extensive cookouts.

Which pan coating is the best?
Whether fish, meat or stir-fries, pans are used almost daily, both in home and professional kitchens. This makes a suitable pan coating all the more important. The coating ensures that food does not stick. This makes roasting even more fun and also easy to clean. To top it off, the coating can also contribute significantly to the taste of the prepared food. The right coating is most essential property of a good pan.
There are different types of coatings: In addition to ceramic coatings, there are also synthetic coatings. However, pans with a synthetic coating must not be overheated. For your outdoor kitchen, however, you need a pan that can withstand high temperatures. This is where pans without coatings, such as Petromax Wrought-Iron or Cast-Iron pans, come in. They develop their non-stick effect by themselves in a natural manner by forming a patina layer.
This self-forming, chemical-free and non-synthetic layer provides a non-stick effect that increases over time and is highly resistant to high temperatures. Thus, you can use your cast-iron or wrought-iron pan over an open fire or in the oven while at the same time benefiting from its non-hazardous properties and non-stick effect.
Which is the best Grill Fire Skillet?
With a Grill Fire Skillet you can enjoy the pleasures of grilling and roasting wherever you are. The Petromax Grill Fire Skillet is suitable for any stove and can even be used over an open fire.
The grooves are responsible for the typical roasting pattern and allow food liquids to drain. It also intensifies the flavour of the grilled food because you do not lose any flavours when cooking with cast iron. The self-forming patina provides a natural anti-stick effect. At the same time, it helps you to limit roasting fats and oils to a minimum.
The Petromax Grill Fire Skillet offers characteristic flavours, healthy and flexible grilling experiences and is particularly durable due to its robust material. Decide whether the Petromax Grill Fire Skillet is also the best skillet for you.

Are all pans suitable for the oven?
Only use pans that can withstand the temperatures in your oven. Some pans, for example those with a synthetic coating, are not made for particularly high temperatures and must not be used in a hot oven.
Pans that are suitable for use in an oven are also labelled as such. Always check the manufacturer's instructions. With wrought-iron and cast-iron pans, however, you do not need to worry. You can use them in the oven and even over an open fire without hesitation.
Which pans may be used in the oven?
Wrought-iron and cast-iron pans may be placed in the oven. Both materials, whether cast or wrought iron, can easily withstand high temperatures, so they can also be used over an open fire.
Pans with short or no handle, such as the Petromax Fire Skillet or Grill Fire Skillet with two handles, are particularly practical. They are easier to use in the oven since they can be used in a similar way to an ovenproof dish. Also, there is no handle that would limit the size of the pan, allowing you to opt for a larger pan size.

How long does a pan coating last?
The durability of the coating varies depending on the quality of the pan and type of coating. A long-lasting product will save you a lot of frustration. You will understand if you have ever been annoyed by a relatively new pan exhibiting dents or a scratched coating.
The best coating is no coating at all: Cast-iron and wrought-iron pans do not have a coating, but they do have excellent non-stick properties. They owe this to the precious patina that impoves over time after seasoning.
Cleaning with dishwashing liquid can attack the patina. However, this does not render your pan unusable as you can restore the patina by re-seasoning the pan. With good care, your cast- and wrought-iron pans and their natural non-stick effect will last a lifetime.
What you need to do if your precious patina is damaged you can read in the user manual.
Can coated pans be cleaned in the dishwasher?
Whether coating or natural anti-stick effect, a dishwasher is too aggressive and attacks the surface. With cast and wrought iron, dishwasher treatment can also very quiyckly lead to rust formation.
Therefore, you should only rinse your pan with clear water; if necessary, you can also use a standard dishwashing brush. For optimal cleaning with no risk of damage, use the Chain Mail Cleaner for Cast and Wrought Iron or the Scraper for Dutch Ovens and Skillets, which is also available specifically for the grooved Grill Fire Skillet.
